The Board considered a first reading of updated policies on Oct. 23 and discussed language in Board Policy 9220 that would permit establishing a "dedicated fund for those seeking election to the County Board." Board Member Beverly Gerard said she preferred removing the clause; Board Member Susan Alvaro agreed that extra language could cause problems.
Deputy County Attorney Lisa Cho advised the Board that the authority to establish such a fund is "outlined in the Government Code, specifically Section 85300," and that if the Board revisits the idea it would need a resolution spelling out candidate qualification criteria. Board President Chelsea Bonini and other members signaled they were open to removing the language before the second reading.
