County moves to secure mitigation credits, return smaller grant and seek larger funding for airboat-launch project

The project has 90% drawings from Kimley-Horn and requires wetland mitigation credits to proceed with permitting; staff said the cost to acquire the credits is about $69,000.
The county previously received a $50,000 adapt grant; staff recommended returning that award so the county can apply immediately for a $200,000 adapt grant instead. County staff said the airport/boat-fund balance can cover the $69,000 credits now and that securing credits will unblock permitting. "We would be looking at that — buy the credits and continue with permitting," an administrator said. Staff also told commissioners that the construction estimate is roughly $555,000, and that the county would pursue additional grants (Florida Boating Improvement Program, Land and Water Conservation Fund, etc.) to complete the project.
Commissioners directed staff to pursue negotiation on credit pricing, return the $50,000 award and apply for the $200,000 grant while continuing to seek other matching funds; staff will report grant outcomes and mitigation purchasing options back to the board.
