County project staff reported that phase 1b of the jail construction is nearing completion, with final equipment installations and owner trainings for the kitchen targeted for the end of September. Staff explained that the building pad for Phase 2 (C pod) has been compacted and graded, that underground mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is in place, and that the contractor expects to deliver the modular unit around late September to begin vertical assembly.
Staff also described logistics including relocation of a fiber line and the creation of a temporary walkway to connect the new kitchen to the existing B pod. Commissioners asked about repurposing existing spaces and surplus equipment; staff said they will meet with the sheriff’s office to evaluate needs and consider using in‑house resources to fit equipment into existing footprints. The board expressed appreciation for progress and emphasized continued attention to inspections, punch‑list resolution and planning for turnover and training.
