Town staff told the council that construction of the new high and middle school buildings is progressing on schedule and on budget. Excavation and installation of a new water main, masonry, exterior framing and roofing are underway across multiple buildings, HVAC ductwork and refrigerant lines are being installed, and fireproofing and sprinkler work continue. Staff estimated up to about 200 workers on site daily and said furniture bids will be completed early September.
"Again, on time, on budget," said Ed Collins, summarizing the school project status and noting that the project team is coordinating with the superintendent on a draft moving plan. Staff said they will brief teachers and staff on opening-day procedures and will continue to refine moving logistics. The council did not take further action beyond receipt of the memorandum.
Members asked about timelines for final cleaning and occupancy; staff said the two elementary schools already completed cleaning and that they expect to complete final work in the weeks before school opens. Councilors pressed for assurances that safety and operations will be ready for students and staff, and staff said they are in close contact with the school department to finalize plans.
