Dr. Pete Meany, Ward 1 city councilor in Lynn, announced his campaign for state representative in the 9th Essex District and outlined three initiatives he would pursue if elected.
Meany said universal pre‑K would be his first priority, arguing that "working parents pay the highest day care costs in the country" and that pre‑K should expand beyond the state's gateway cities. "We deserve universal pre k," he said.
Meany also called for a ban on what he described as "predatory algorithms," saying those pricing systems "increase your rent and they increase your mortgage" and that the gains "enrich the banks and the corporate landlords." He added that he would seek a moratorium on data centers, saying "there's absolutely no reason the ratepayers of Massachusetts should be subsidizing billion dollar AI corporations. It's unacceptable."
Meany framed his campaign around responsiveness, contrasting his frequent constituent outreach with what he described as an unresponsive incumbent: he said it took his individual effort to fix a two‑year problem on Route 129. He closed by asking for votes in the Sept. 1 primary and the Nov. 3 general election.
