The Douglass Township Board of Supervisors on Feb. 2 voted not to support a variance request for a proposed two-lot subdivision at 1675 Swamp Pike, citing concerns raised by neighbors and the township planning agency.
Mr. Galanos, representing the applicant, said the proposed Lot 2 would measure 12,948 square feet and be 77 feet wide, short of the R‑2 zoning minimums (15,000 sq ft and 100 ft width). "A good portion of this property is taken by the right-of-way, which cannot be built upon," he said, arguing the right-of-way created the dimensional hardship. Nearby resident Kristy Evans submitted a petition opposing the two houses and urged that one house or a playground would better preserve the neighborhood’s character and avoid construction congestion.
Supervisor Sara Carpenter said the Planning Agency found no genuine hardship and recommended denial; the Board approved a motion not to support the variance (motion: Carpenter; second: Bergstresser; Bergstresser‑Aye, Stouch‑Aye, Carpenter‑Aye). The Board then authorized Solicitor Wendy McKenna to send a letter to the Zoning Hearing Board stating the Board does not support the requested relief.
