The committee discussed where to encourage commercial and industrial growth, with members favoring corridor-oriented siting over placing heavy truck or industrial uses adjacent to residential neighborhoods. Milton Ollerton and Jim Gerdes noted existing industrial zoning overlays on GIS and recommended using those layers to avoid future land-use conflicts. Steve Stringham said the county will hold a public hearing on road proposals once figures are firm and noted a conversation with the Idaho Transportation Department is scheduled.
Gerdes highlighted the local farm-to-market economy and the presence of the INL as existing anchors for small-business supply chains; members discussed incentives to attract employers that provide well-paying jobs without overwhelming local infrastructure.
