City approves Soup, Stew, Chili & Brew permit; organizers highlight vendor returns and attendance

The board approved a street-closing resolution for the Soup, Stew, Chili & Brew festival on Oct. 10 after Alex Helton, representing the Area Chamber of Commerce, described the footprint, vendor management and cleanup plans.
Helton said the footprint is similar to prior years and organizers are adjusting beer‑garden and seating layouts to reduce problems with attendees leaving with beverages. He told the board that the festival returned about $83,000 to vendors last year and said attendance has grown steadily; organizers described attendance in the neighborhood of 9,000 people. "We had $83,000 dollars that was given back, to those vendors last year," Helton said. The board amended one closure item (eliminate a Broadway closure added during last year’s construction) and approved the resolution 2026-34b.
Helton also described porta‑potty placement and past pickup issues; board members asked organizers to coordinate with property owners for dumpster placement and with public-safety staff for overnight security and rapid porta‑potty removal after the event.
