Organizers narrow street-closure request; Madison board approves amended Rockin' on the River permit

Organizers of Rockin' on the River asked the Board of Public Works and Safety to limit street closures so the community pool remains accessible during the event. Annie (speaker 7), who said this is her second year running the event and the 29th year overall for the festival, asked that the board reserve the River Road parking-lot area and avoid closing the streets that would block pool access.
"All I want is that 1 River Road space," Annie said, arguing that restricting only the immediate riverfront area would keep the pool and restrooms accessible. Board members discussed the map and agreed to strike item #2 (a broader north–south closure) from the proposed resolution. Chair moved to amend the resolution and the board approved the amendment and then approved resolution 2026-31b as amended. Organizers also discussed band bookings, food-truck placement and possible future movie screenings at the park.
The board emphasized safety planning and asked staff and organizers to coordinate on barricades, traffic patterns, and timing to avoid conflicts with pool users.
