The chair said that once the budget is published the county cannot increase the levy above the published amount but can lower it before the public hearing; the hearing was set for Aug. 24.
Commissioners discussed potential cuts to reach various levy targets, including a staff note that infrastructure grants to cities and parks total $1.5 million (approximately two mills) and that removing such items would reduce the levy quickly. The chair said the target often discussed internally is about 53.999 mills, which would require approximately $300,568 in additional cuts. The board agreed to publish the notice this week and continue work to identify possible reductions prior to the hearing.
