The Charlestown City Tree Board voted on Sept. 5 to join the Chestnut Tree Society (American Chestnut Society chapter) to access blight‑resistant chestnut saplings that will be available in May 2025. The Chair said the society manages distribution on a roughly annual schedule—“they do about 66 to 70 trees a year” at the state-level program—and suggested the board could grow saplings in a planned nursery before outplanting. Board members supported the small membership cost as a cost-effective way to secure species for future plantings.
