Roberto Ellis described the ******* Brothers property on 9th Street as a brownfield that was historically a gas manufacturing plant and more recently used for scrap metal operations. He said the city met with the developer/estate group and "has offered to cover some of the environmental site assessment costs that are associated with properties of this kind" to support redevelopment.
Ellis framed the assistance as targeted to make the property more attractive for investment and to enable reuse that benefits the downtown and North Magnolia CRAs. He said the city is invested in seeing the property redeveloped in a way that benefits those CRA areas but did not provide specific dollar figures for the assessment assistance.
