Ocala parks director defends trail resurfacing costs; overlay estimated to last about 10 years

Julie Johnson, the city’s recreation and parks director, described trail usage and resurfacing strategy in response to council questions about a $250,000 Silver Pines trail resurfacing request. "I drive by it from time to time just to check and see how things are, and I do see people walking on it," Johnson said when asked whether residents use the trail.
Johnson noted resurfacing costs can vary; she described a recent 2‑mile overlay done for about $100,000 and said properly maintained overlays are expected to last roughly 10 years. Council members asked how the Silver Pines price compared to other recent projects and Johnson explained resurfacing and materials have become more expensive over time.
