Ocala unveils $1.15 billion proposed budget for FY 2025–26

Tammy Haslam, the city of Ocala budget director, presented the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 annual budget and outlined the adoption schedule for council review. "I am pleased to present to you the fiscal year 20 25 26 proposed annual budget," Haslam said, noting the first public hearing is set for Sept. 3 and the final reading for Sept. 16.
Haslam said the proposed citywide budget totals $1,152,885,830 and that the general fund is balanced at the current millage rate of 6.6177. She detailed that each mill is expected to yield about $8.1 million in ad valorem revenue and that the general fund budget totals roughly $188.1 million. The presentation also noted that the fire assessment revenue target remains about $18.2 million and that those rates were publicly noticed on Aug. 1.
The presentation framed the budget around five council strategic goals — economic hub, operational excellence, employee engagement, fiscal sustainability and quality of life — and emphasized that public safety represents a significant share of general fund spending. Haslam closed by thanking council and staff and reminding members that the community redevelopment area board must approve CRA budgets ahead of council hearings.
