Board presses Util on translation and outreach to new Americans

Board members raised concerns about language access and whether the proposed survey and outreach would reach Concord's New American communities. A Util presenter said the team will use school and census data to prioritize which languages should be translated in writing and which communities would be better served by in-person facilitated sessions.
"Written translation is not always the most effective way to hear from communities for whom English is not their primary language," the presenter said. The team proposed budgeting for two translated written languages plus English, and using live interpretation or hosted community meetings in other languages when appropriate.
