The Weathersfield Conservation Commission voted July 23 to send a draft letter to the Selectboard recommending reclassification of portions of Town Highways (TH) 112 and 118 to Legal Trails.
Ryan Gumbart, a commission member, moved to send Bruce Cox’s draft letter with one correction; Cheryl Cox seconded the motion and it carried. Ellen Clattenburg abstained. The approval followed discussion about precise endpoints and permitted uses.
Dave Fuller asked that the ends of the trail/road be clearly identified in the letter and urged the commission to prohibit e-bikes on the trail, suggesting e-bikes instead use Class 3 roads. Gumbart responded that the town ordinance currently allows e-bikes on trails and Class 4 roads and recommended a future ordinance review and site-specific rules to limit motorized or electric use where necessary.
Ellen Clattenburg also asked the commission to remove the phrase 'probably not passable by cars' from the description of TH 112 after noting that sections of the route she inspected appeared narrower and more eroded than other parts the commission had walked. The letter will be sent to the Selectboard with the agreed correction.
