Branson aldermen adopt Chamber/CVB development priorities after debate on procedure

City staff presented a condensed version of development and procedural priorities brought by the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and CVB; Administrator Kathy Stepp said the list was formatted to avoid overpromising and to focus staff work. "This is really just about me trying to get direction, trying to do it at the speed of business," Stepp said, explaining the resolution would give staff direction before moving to ordinance changes.

Several aldermen questioned whether the chamber list should be adopted as a resolution or handled administratively or consolidated with other organizations' priorities. Alderman Glenn Schulz moved to indefinitely postpone the resolution; that motion initially tied and fell when the mayor declined to sustain the postponement. Alderman Alex Williams successfully moved an amendment to restore language titled "utilize discretion already built into code," and the amended resolution passed by roll call vote, 6-0. Supporters said adopting the resolution sends a signal to the business community and helps staff prioritize workload; opponents cautioned against privileging one group's list without a consolidated process.
