The council reviewed and approved the July 2025 financial statement after several members warned that the town needs to tighten spending until revenue projections are clearer. One councilmember urged a moratorium on nonessential expenses: "we just need to not spend money on meals and anything that's not a necessity at this point until we really know where the lay of the land is," the member said.
Members said employees have responded positively to management changes but that the town should plan conservatively for next year's budget because mineral lease and other receipts are uncertain. The chair said staff will conduct scheduled budget work sessions in the coming meetings to finalize assumptions and potential cuts.
The motion to approve the July financial statement passed on voice vote. Council asked staff to return with budget scenarios and to track any emergent costs or one-time items that could be deferred.
