Rangely council approves August financials after manager warns of $500,000 shortfall

Interim Town Manager Lisa Perring told the Rangely Town Council on Sept. 23 that the town’s general fund shows strain and that officials expect a multi-year shortfall tied to state severance revenue changes. "We did have a shortfall of over over 500,000 in severance," Perring said, noting the town will move into a more conservative spending posture.
Council members discussed the likely multi-year impact and voted to approve the August 2025 financial statement. Council member Todd moved to approve the financials, and the motion carried after an oral 'Aye' from members present. Perring said some fund balances (gas fund and RDA) reflected timing and one-time reimbursements tied to grants and capital spending.
The council did not adopt new revenue measures at the meeting; members said they would press department heads to identify cuts and prioritize core services. Perring also flagged upcoming reimbursements on the river project and predevelopment work that may normalize some fund balances in the fourth quarter.
