The Ocala Electric Utility told council it will purchase Hendrix aerial cable — an insulated, bundled conductor designed to reduce outages in areas where vegetation management is difficult — and the council approved the purchase.
"Hendrix aerial cable is an insulated primary overhead conductor designed to minimize electric outages and interruptions caused by minor vegetation event events," Director Doug Peebles said. He said the product is bundled and insulated and has performed well in trials on one circuit. Council also approved contracts with Davy Tree Expert Company and Burford's Tree Inc. for emergency vegetation removal after staff said both bidders met requirements at lowest cost.
Peebles said the purchases support the city's strategic goal of operational excellence and will help improve reliability in problem areas. Council approved both procurement actions by roll call.
