Vice Chair Jim Linville moved the measure, which the board recorded as unanimously approved after a second from Secretary Linda Saarnijoki.
Resident Logan Spencer and George Benson had asked the board during public comment to permit limited roadside riding so neighbors could access additional trail systems; Spencer presented three letters from local residents in support of the request. The Selectboard’s approval covers riding “along the edges and snowbanks (to the best of their ability) from the junction of Turner Road heading west and from Trout Club Road to Moses Pond Road, extending to the Mount Tabor town line / George Benson’s camp,” per the motion recorded in the minutes.
The board emphasized the permit is temporary and noted that future seasons’ requests must be coordinated through Derry Sled Dogs, the organization the town works with annually regarding snowmobile riding permission and trail access. The action is limited to the remainder of the current snowmobile season and includes the condition that riders follow applicable rules and regulations.
The motion and the board’s clarification came during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the Selectboard did not discuss changes to town ordinances or make any permanent change to town policy at this session.
