The budget committee voted to approve corrections to its draft budget template and scheduled a follow-up meeting for May 14 to begin detailed line-by-line work.
Chair (S1) said the corrected template moves items such as utilities and contracted services into clearer categories and adds a clearer presentation of year-to-date figures. "And then once they approve it, they file the budget with the city secretary and then your 30 day count starts at that point in time," the Chair said, describing the sequence the committee must follow before a public hearing.
Committee members debated whether to keep three right-hand columns for year-to-date and percent-change comparisons. One member favored adding a year-to-date column so staff and council could see monthly progress: "That way, they can keep up by monthly," the Chair said. Members agreed to present a recommended budget in late June (target dates discussed) and to bring remaining questions back to the May 14 meeting so the council could review a more finished product.
The committee also directed staff to reconcile some duplicated entries and to ensure all contract and internet charges are shown in the proper lines to avoid later amendments. A motion to approve the corrections was made and passed by voice/show-of-hands; specific vote tallies were not recorded in the transcript.
