During the CTP presentation, Emily Stepka highlighted Project 3: an upgrade of US 220 to interstate standards spanning from Virginia to the NC 68 interchange and including interchange candidates at Martinsville Loop, Stardust Church Road and C‑135 (Simpson Road).
"We would like to upgrade US 220 to interstate standards," Stepka said, adding that feasibility studies are underway to evaluate the proposals and their potential to improve statewide reliability and connectivity.
Presenters did not provide construction timelines or detailed budgets for the US 220 upgrades; they described the recommendation as a planning-level proposal that would be subjected to feasibility, prioritization and funding processes before design and right-of-way acquisition.
