The Electric City Council voted on May 14 to decline immediate termination of its law-enforcement service agreement with the town of Coulee Dam and instead to terminate the contract on a 180-day timeline.
Councilmember Cheryl Hoffman introduced the motion after an executive session that began at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the existing police contract under state open-meeting law (RCW 42.30.110(1)(d)). The motion to avoid immediate termination and set a 180-day end was seconded by Councilmember Joe Higgs and carried unanimously.
Council did not record new staffing or budget directions during the public session. The council will rely on the ad hoc Public Safety Committee, just formed at the same meeting, to research law-enforcement options going forward and report back with recommendations.
