Contractors describe site equipment, cutting methods and moisture-management behind veneer

Contractors outlined how the masonry crews will work on site and how moisture will be handled behind the veneer. They said pipe staging will be used for the relatively low walls (rather than larger lifts in some locations), and that saws resembling large tile saws will cut veneer as needed; mixers and silos will be on site to prepare mortar. "They also have, their their saw that they're' they're cutting the brick veneer with...it's like a larger tile saw to do that," a contractor said.
On moisture control, Bob explained that the assembly is designed so moisture terminates at the air-vapor barrier and drains by gravity to a pitched brick shelf with drains so water does not become trapped between veneer and wall. The contractors said that management of drainage, proper shelf pitching and integration with the air barrier are the means the project uses to prevent moisture entrapment behind the veneer.
