Alliance council sets seven strategic priorities, from economy to civic engagement

Mayor John McGhehey convened the Alliance City Council strategic planning meeting at 1:00 p.m. May 28 in the Alliance Learning Center. City Manager Cox presented a seven‑point framework the council will use to guide policy and budget decisions for the coming year, listing Priority One through Priority Seven as Economy; Housing; Infrastructure; Safety; Quality of Life; Internal Financial; and Engaged, Informed Neighbors.

City Manager Cox described concrete goals for the first two priorities, including an economic directive to "Pursue Diversification Primary Jobs and Investments" and to "Activate Development Pillars and Tourism," and a housing objective to "Implement Workforce Housing Program" and use CRA developments and city‑owned properties to support housing supply. Finance Director Baker framed Priority Six as strengthening general fund resiliency and internal support services, while department heads detailed how CIPs and workforce steps will support infrastructure and safety priorities. The council received informational overviews from department directors on IT, airport, electric, public works, police, fire, and parks projects. No motions or votes were taken during the session.

The session included two outside presentations tied to capital planning: an architect's briefing on a proposed Public Safety Center by Doug Boe of WSKF Architects and a bond financing presentation by Austine Partridge of Northland Securities.
