Thomas Moran told the council during the public-comment period that he had been removed from his election-officer role after restricting campaign workers from entering the polling area at Langley Elementary during the November general election.
Moran said Virginia law prohibits campaign workers inside the polling area and that his enforcement of the rule resulted in an adverse performance evaluation and non-renewal of his appointment. He asked the council to coordinate with the electoral board and registrar to clarify procedures and shore up access routes that keep polling places and school facilities secure on election days. The mayor asked staff to follow up with the registrar and electoral board and to report back.
