The City Council opened its meeting with community recognitions, presenting proclamations to long-running local organizations and volunteers.
Mayor read a proclamation recognizing the Shirt Cannery for five decades of family‑owned service in Mission Viejo; owner Julie Marshall accepted and told the council she began service in 1976 and thanked staff and volunteers: "I'm Julie from the shirt cannery. Been here for 50 years." Representatives from local elected officials'offices provided certificates of recognition.
The council next recognized AYSO Region 84 for 50 years of volunteer youth soccer programming. Gina Paque, assistant regional commissioner, accepted the proclamation on behalf of Region 84 and said the recognition honored many volunteers who make the program possible: "My name is Gina Paque and I'm the assistant regional commissioner of AYSO Region 84. On behalf of our regional commissioner ... we thank you for this proclamation. It is a genuine honor for our region to be recognized tonight."
The council also honored the Mission Viejo girls softball league; Jesse Matlock, league president, thanked the city and described the league's decades of volunteer support and recent activities. Council and community members emphasized that these small businesses and nonprofits provide important community programs for youth and families.
