Mission Viejo sets November 3, 2026 general municipal election and candidate filing calendar

The City Council adopted resolutions on June 9 calling and giving notice for the general municipal election to be held on November 3, 2026, to elect city council members for Districts 1 through 5.
Elections staff explained the filing calendar: nomination papers may be filed beginning Monday, July 13, 2026 through Friday, August 8, 2026. If an incumbent eligible for re-election fails to file, an extended filing deadline to Wednesday, August 12, 2026 applies for Districts 1 and 3 only. Candidate statement costs supplied by the Orange County Registrar of Voters were read into the record: District 1 — $544.63; District 2 — $551.29; District 3 — $537.50; District 4 — $543.31; District 5 — $551.09. Candidate statements in the sample ballot are optional and limited to 200 words, with printing costs paid by the candidate at filing.
Staff also noted that the Registrar of Voters is scheduled to certify results on or before December 3, 2026, and the council's installation of newly elected members is planned for the December 8, 2026 meeting. Council approved the resolutions unanimously.
