Hampton honored as All-America City; resiliency projects highlighted

Mayor James A. Gray told the council that Hampton was recognized in Denver as an All-America City for the fifth time, an award honoring community-driven civic engagement and innovation.
City Manager Mary Bunting described three primary resiliency projects presented at the competition: collaborative neighborhood work in Aberdeen Gardens with Wetlands Watch (which staff said had led to pursuit of philanthropic funds after an EPA grant process), environmental education partnerships with Hampton City Schools, and the Resilient Hampton program with projects such as the Living Shoreline at Waterfront Park in Phoebus. Bunting credited volunteers, school leaders and staff for the submission and asked the team forward to accept the council's recognition.
The mayor and city manager said the award was a reflection of broad civic collaboration rather than an assertion of perfection, and the council gave an on-screen and in-person round of applause to team members who traveled to present in Denver.
