Staff updates commission on draft Industrial Health and Safety Ordinance and outreach

The commission received an update on development of a draft Industrial Health and Safety Ordinance (ISO) and the public outreach that has informed it.
Vivian Togganon said the City Council directed a subcommittee, with Fire Chief Josh Chadwick as the appointed staff member, to create an ISO and conduct stakeholder outreach. "The Draft Industrial Health and Safety Ordinance was released for public comment on 07/16/2024, and was open to the public for comment through 08/17/2024," Togganon said. Staff are analyzing comments and considering revisions to the draft ordinance.
The work is framed under general plan goals to protect community health from exposure to hazardous materials. Staff noted continued public input via the project website and that any regulatory revisions will return through the planning process for further review.
