Shelton described why the contract is necessary — 24/7 monitoring, equipment coverage and the ability to detect system problems before they affect operations — and said this maintenance agreement was needed because previous carrier-based maintenance arrangements changed after corporate acquisitions. He told the board the contract term in the record is backdated to 06/01/2026 through 05/31/2027 and said the current quoted amount is roughly $15,000–$20,000 lower than the county paid in the initial interim years.
Commissioners asked whether the amount was budgeted; Shelton said it was included in the sheriff’s department budget. A motion to approve the Motorola maintenance contract was moved and seconded and recorded as approved by the board.
