City staff told the Planning Commission that Benicia was awarded a $750,000 planning grant from the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to develop a Port of Benicia facilities and infrastructure modernization plan.
"The city was also awarded a $750,000 grant from the Association of Bay Area Governments, otherwise known as ABAG, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, otherwise known as MTC, as a planning grant to produce a Port Of Benicia facilities and infrastructure modernization plan for the city's priority production area," said Vivian Togganon, Associate Planner. Staff said the city awarded a consultant agreement to GHD in October 2024 and kicked off the project in November 2024.
The grant will support planning for industrial park and port areas, including potential updates to industrial design guidelines in 2025. Staff described the project as part of a broader effort to evaluate future port activity and land needs to sustain viable port operations.
