Steve Methman reviews community development staffing and rising permit revenue

Steve Methman presented the Community Development portion of the city budget and said staff changes are driving the department’s modest budget increase. "We will fill that job with the assistant director of community development, which will be Latora Anderson," Methman said, and added that the role is intended to provide succession planning as he anticipates retirement.
Methman gave a detailed breakdown of operations — planning, permitting, inspections, code enforcement, public health and GIS — and described higher permit revenue from recent construction. "Last year, we did 1,337 permits for almost $1,700,000 in fees. This year to date ... we've done 1,282, and we're already a little over 2,400,000 that we've taken in on," he said. He tied a rise in inspections to large apartment projects and noted one code-enforcement officer position remains open while complaints have risen. Methman also flagged challenges moving permit data during a software transition to Tyler Technologies' InterGov system.
