UPD recognizes officers after multi‑jurisdiction October robbery arrest and recovery of AR‑15

Chief April Morse briefed the council on an Oct. 15, 2024 incident when officers responded to a robbery at a Maverik gas station near the Midvale–Cottonwood Heights border. Morse said initial reports indicated "a suspect with a rifle had entered the store and pointed the rifle at the clerk before fleeing." Officers located and pursued the suspect vehicle; after it was crash abandoned and suspects fled on foot, officers recovered the weapon and arrested suspects tied to an earlier Millcreek robbery. Chief Morse presented Division Commander Awards to officers involved in the case.
Mayor Gettel and council members thanked the officers for their work. Matt Dahl also expressed gratitude for public safety efforts. The awards recognized multiple named officers and K9 units for collaborative work across precincts.
