The board approved the Germantown School District’s proposed employee handbooks for 2026–27 after administration walked trustees through a set of clarifying edits. Dr. Castro said some changes align handbook language with current practice, such as routing workers'‑compensation claims through the business office rather than HR and adjusting unpaid‑leave language to trigger benefit‑payments after any unpaid day in certain circumstances.
Dr. Castro noted other edits including making bereavement documentation requirements discretionary in some situations, replacing instances of "coaches" with "mentors" where appropriate, clarifying normal work‑day hours and duty‑free lunch time, and formalizing special‑education aide licensure reimbursement after 90 workdays. "The biggest part of this was that they have to submit the claim to their supervisor as well as this actually funnels through the business office with Britney," Dr. Castro said, explaining one of the procedural changes. The board approved the handbooks on the motion brought forward without recorded opposition.
