Council approves rezoning for parking expansion, paving way for Sherwin‑Williams store

City Planner Jonathan Anderson told the council the proposed rezoning from Single Family Residential‑1 (SF‑1) to Regional Commercial (RC) would allow the site’s owner to restore and expand parking lost under previous zoning and enable a wider range of commercial uses. Anderson said the request met rezone criteria in Midvale Municipal Code 17‑3‑1(E) and aligned with the general plan’s commercial designation.
After opening and closing public comment with no speakers, applicant Matt McWhirter confirmed the intended use: "it will be a Sherwin Williams paint store." Council Member Heidi Robinson moved to approve Ordinance No. 2025‑O‑01; Council Member Bonnie Billings seconded. Roll call votes were recorded as Billings, Glover, Robinson and Brown voting Aye; Council Member Denece Mikolash was excused. The ordinance passed.
