Food service posts strong participation and clears federal audit; equipment failures prompt repairs

She described recent equipment problems — a high‑school refrigerated merchandiser failed and a Kennedy Middle School walk‑in freezer required seam recaulk and defrosting — and said replacement and repair work is scheduled for August along with summer projects to reassemble hydroponic labs ahead of the 2026–27 school year.
Board members asked whether the hydroponic setup could be reassembled in time for the start of school. Ms. Ciefel said the systems will be reassembled and ready but she will wait to begin growing until students return, estimating about 28 days from planting to harvest in classroom use.
