Planning Board to update design guidelines as MBTA Communities Act reshapes local zoning

Rob Maidman told the EDC the Planning Board intends to update town design guidelines and zoning to anticipate changes under the MBTA Communities Act and that the board has funds to hire a consultant and will hold a public hearing. "The MBTA Community Act is transforming towns," Maidman said, adding the town had already adjusted zoning to allow more housing.
Maidman said a portion of the board favors encouraging mixed-use redevelopment—mandatory ground-floor stores with housing above—if properties such as Mandarin Taste are sold, and that the Planning Board will seek public input as it proceeds.
