Council authorizes city attorney to file suit over Greenville Housing Authority subsidiary

City Attorney (speaker 12) told the council he and outside counsel were prepared to file a lawsuit challenging the legality of a public facilities corporation formed by the Greenville Housing Authority in 2023 under Chapter 303 of the Government Code. The county had authorized similar action earlier the same day; the council voted unanimously to authorize the city attorney to proceed and to sign engagement letters with outside counsel.
The attorney said the matter raised questions about the legality of the housing authority's corporate actions and that a lawsuit could be filed by the end of the week if authorized. "There's been questions raised about the legality, of that corporation and its activities," the attorney told council before the motion passed unanimously.
