Commission hears regional-plan updates: Montpelier plan appeal and disaster-recovery grant for Winooski Basin modeling

Chair Rich Turner summarized recent Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission (CVRPC) activity, saying the RPC held a special board meeting on Aug. 21 to finalize approval of the Montpelier City Plan contingent on the RPC; that approval is now the subject of an appeal, and Turner said the VT League of Cities and Towns may no longer have authority over aspects of the appeal process.
Turner also described disaster-recovery funding: "I believe that there is around $67 million dollars that the state is getting from HUD," he said, and noted the RPC is seeking a little over $1 million to fund Winooski Basin flood modeling and floodproofing alternatives. He framed the grant as having two pieces: basin flood analysis and capital mutual-aid improvements, including upgrades to cell-tower coverage following recent flooding.
