Germantown School District Board unanimously recognizes Eagle Scout for project on district property

The Germantown School District Board of Education voted unanimously to formally recognize an Eagle Scout whose service project was completed on district property.

Board member (S2) told colleagues the scout completed an Eagle project on district property and later received the rank of Eagle Scout. "If you look at our policy on recognition, which is 66 80, it states that the Board of Education believes in the concept of recognition of groups or individuals for outstanding achievements," the board member said, arguing the project demonstrated "leadership and ... service to the district and the community." Photos of the project, provided by the scout and family, were shown to the board; Board member (S3) said the images "tell the whole picture" of the before-and-after work and noted visible upgrades to the shed.

Staff member (S4) reminded the board that scouts must document the project process—including concept, approvals and completion—before credits toward Eagle rank are finalized. After brief discussion and expressions of support from several board members, the board took a roll call and recorded a 7-0 vote in favor of the recognition. The motion carried, recorded as "Motion carries" with a 7-0 tally.

The board did not specify the scout's name on the public transcript excerpts reviewed. The action was recorded as formal recognition under the district recognition policy (66 80).
