Commission addresses fence damage, sinking markers, flag holders and tree work

Williamstown Cemetery commissioners reviewed a set of maintenance and records issues during their Sept. 25 meeting and assigned follow-up tasks to inspect and address them. Commissioners examined photos of a misaligned black fence in West Hill and discussed a missing corner stone; rust and freeze-thaw damage were suggested as possible causes. Chair Matt Couillard and Joe Mangan agreed to inspect the fence and take action as needed.
Susan Lyons flagged several other items: a grass marker sinking into a woodchuck hole in East Hill, a large chuck hole by a monument in the Village Cemetery, and a need for three WWII flag holders (two in East Hill, one in West Hill). Lyons also reported an apparent record discrepancy: a lot shown as empty for Herve Roy appears to have been sold back in 2002, and his death certificate lists burial in St. Sylvester’s Cemetery. Commissioners discussed trimming trees and shrubs near the Capron stones and suggested planning a workday next year to address trimming and other repairs.
"I can run up and take a look at it," Chair Matt Couillard said of the damaged fence corner stone, while Joe Mangan said he would check burial records and address maintenance items while mowing. The commission logged the maintenance requests and assigned staff follow-up.
