The Gunter City Council voted to award the city's trash service RFP to Alfred Services after a brief public comment from JB Sweeney, who identified himself as representing Community Waste Postal and said the company supports Alfred’s selection.
"I just came here tonight really to, congratulate Alfred's services for being the recommended vendor," JB Sweeney said, citing his firm's long history of municipal contracts. Council discussion that preceded the vote noted five proposals were received and that staff had reviewed large proposal binders before recommending Alfred.
Council members then moved into related contract issues, including whether the selected vendor would provide billing services or the city should perform billing in-house. The council approved awarding the RFP and authorized staff to begin contract negotiations; the mayor announced the vote was unanimous.
