Sinkhole on Autry Boulevard spurs temporary one-lane traffic and emergency repairs

A council member said this week crews discovered a sinkhole along Autry Boulevard, where the culvert has pulled away at the headwall and water has begun eroding the roadway. "It's a sinkhole, and it's on 1 side of the street, and it's on the other side of the street," the council member said, describing visible openings and light showing between the two holes.
City staff posted and spanned the damaged area with steel panels, reduced the roadway to a single lane with signs and a 10 mph limit for safety, and brought in the city engineer and a contractor to develop a repair plan. The speaker said the work is a high priority but "obviously is not a budgeted repair," and staff are exploring options and meeting next week with consultants to scope costs and alternatives.
