Commissioners press developer on access, lighting and pedestrian safety for Goose Creek PD

One commissioner described existing problems at the corridor and expressed concern additional development could worsen ingress and egress: "Acceleration and deceleration lanes on to 52 And Old Mount Holly Road... This isn't gonna make it worse," the commissioner said while urging careful evaluation. The applicant acknowledged the concern and said the team is coordinating with DOT and Berkeley County and expects the primary driveway to be limited to right‑in/right‑out operations.
Commissioners asked staff to require photometric analysis and pedestrian‑scale lighting in the design review. "I would like to request that staff work with the design team to ensure pedestrian scale lighting is incorporated throughout this project and that intersection lighting is also incorporated to include photometric analysis," one commissioner said, asking that the commission record the request. Staff agreed to return with any required clarifications during subsequent site plan review.
The commission also discussed how proposed multi‑use paths would connect to the county's planned widening and pedestrian projects; staff said a city path is in permitting and that the applicant is not proposing to widen county roads themselves. The discussion closed with the panel approving the rezoning while asking staff to follow up on access, parking and lighting details.
