Resident tells court blocked drains flooded his home, asks why county relies on grants

Brent Casey, a Sinton resident, told the commissioners court that repeated drainage issues have caused flooding on his property for years and that, this week, "I got water in my house." Casey said he and neighbors found main drains blocked with large concrete boulders and asked why cleaning and preventive maintenance require grant funding rather than routine tax‑funded maintenance. "There's no excuse for it," Casey said, describing a history of flooding after county road work and asking who governs the drainage district that controls the ditches feeding Peter's Well.

County officials did not offer a new immediate remediation plan during the public‑comment period; commissioners and staff later outlined ongoing culvert and ditch‑cleaning efforts in several precincts and asked residents to continue reporting problem sites. The court's subsequent road and bridge reports noted crews are actively cleaning culverts and picking up brush and that precinct offices are addressing potholes and barricade installations in low‑water crossings.
