As part of the FY2027 tentative budget presentation, finance director Peter told the council the city plans to set aside $281,300 annually for four years to purchase a new pump truck for the fire department. "Essentially, they need to buy an additional pump truck... we're asking to set aside $281,300 of annually for the next 4 years to pay for the truck outright after the 4 years," Peter said.
Staff explained the procurement timeline for fire apparatus typically spans multiple years because vehicles are built to order; earmarked funds would be held in a reserve until the vehicle is completed and the council approved the tentative budget language that includes this reserve. The city emphasized dedicated reserve accounting and said the funds cannot be spent until the budget is formally adopted following required hearings.
