Councilor Hudson read a resolution recognizing Sharon Washington for her decades-long commitment to early childhood care and education, saying Washington's "remarkable journey, entrepreneurial spirit, and steadfast dedication to children have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the city of Syracuse." The resolution cites Washington's move from Clarksdale, Mississippi to Syracuse in 1985 and commends her leadership and expanded access to quality child care.
Washington accepted the honor and addressed the council. "I got licensed in 1991 and never been closed," she said, describing 38 years in child care without major violations and noting she paid many costs out of pocket during COVID and other hardships. She thanked council members and families for trusting her with children for decades.
