High WWTP decommissioning estimate prompts budget change, council hears

Engineer Eric Haibach told council he is "continuing to work with Chivers Construction Co., and the EPA on developing a plan for decommissioning the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP)." He said he has received a cost estimate but was "not happy with the number" and hopes the cost will drop.
Fiscal Officer Kristie Crockett said the budget packets are out and that she had to change the budget because of the decommissioning quote; the cost has been added to the budget but she is hoping it will come down. Separately, council approved a not-to-exceed $5,000 purchase order to Chivers Construction Co. to remove excess effluent at the WWTP.
The minutes do not include a detailed decommissioning cost figure in the body of the record; the engineer’s comments and the fiscal officer’s budget adjustment were recorded as the council considered temporary appropriations for early 2025.
